Public vs Private Video Links: What Saveivo Can Access
Learn why a link can play for you but still be private, login-only, group-restricted or unavailable to Saveivo.
A public video link opens for an ordinary visitor without relying on your personal account, group membership or paid access. Saveivo processes public media only. If a post works because you are signed in, following the creator or inside a private group, the link may still be private to everyone else.
Why a visible post is not always public
Social applications personalize what you can see. Your account may have permission because:
- You follow a private creator
- You are friends with the person who posted it
- You joined a private or members-only group
- You purchased a subscription or course
- You already passed an age or location check
- The platform remembers your login session
When you copy the address, those permissions do not become part of the URL. Saveivo does not receive your account session and should never ask for your password.
The private-window test
The simplest check is to open the copied link in a private or incognito browser window:
- Copy the individual video's Share link.
- Open a private browser window where you are not signed in.
- Paste the link and load it.
- Check whether the video itself plays without requesting access.
If it asks you to log in, join, subscribe, confirm your age or request permission, treat it as restricted. A page title or thumbnail alone does not prove that the media stream is public.
Examples of public links
A link is more likely to be usable when it points to:
- A public YouTube video or Short
- A public TikTok post
- A Facebook post whose audience is Public
- A Reel from a public Instagram profile
- An X post from an unprotected account
Availability can still depend on whether the platform exposes a compatible media format and whether the post is region-restricted.
Examples Saveivo does not bypass
Saveivo is not designed to open:
- Private-profile posts
- Friends-only Facebook media
- Private Facebook group videos
- Protected X account posts
- YouTube members-only or paid videos
- Deleted or expired posts
- DRM-protected streams
- Media that requires a login, subscription, age check or location permission
This protects account security and respects the creator's chosen access controls.
What about an unlisted video?
Unlisted is not the same as private on every platform. A person with the exact link may be able to open some unlisted media without an account, while other posts remain access-controlled.
Do not assume that link access gives you permission to download or redistribute the work. Confirm both technical availability and the creator's permission.
Why a public link can stop working
Public status is not permanent. A creator can delete the post, make an account private, change the audience or restrict distribution. The platform can also change how it serves video.
When an old link fails:
- Open the original post.
- Confirm that it still plays while signed out.
- Copy a fresh Share link.
- Paste only the clean URL into Saveivo.
- Try one compatible quality.
If the post is no longer public, do not attempt to work around the change.
Access is different from permission
Public access means the platform currently lets visitors view the post. It does not mean the video is free of copyright, privacy, publicity, trademark or contractual restrictions.
Before downloading or reusing media, ask:
- Did I create it?
- Did the creator explicitly allow downloading?
- Does its license permit my intended use?
- Will I repost, edit or use it commercially?
- Does it include people, music or brands whose rights also matter?
When in doubt, ask the creator and keep their answer.
Once a link passes the public test and you have permission, paste it into Saveivo and choose the quality that fits your device.
