How to Download a Public Facebook Video or Reel
Identify a truly public Facebook post, copy its individual video link and prepare an authorized MP4 with Saveivo.
Saveivo can prepare an available MP4 from a public Facebook video or Reel when you own the media or have permission to download it. The important part is obtaining the link to the individual post and confirming that Facebook exposes it without your account session.
Make sure the Facebook audience is Public
Facebook posts can use Public, Friends, group, page, subscriber or custom audience settings. A video that plays for you while signed in may still be unavailable to a public downloader.
Look for the audience indicator on the original post and open its link in a private browser window. If Facebook requires a login, group membership or another permission, Saveivo cannot access it.
Private groups, friends-only posts, deleted media and login-only videos are not supported. Do not provide Facebook credentials to Saveivo or any other downloader.
Copy a Facebook video link on mobile
- Open the individual video or Reel in Facebook.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Copy link. You may need to open additional sharing options.
- Open Saveivo's Facebook downloader.
- Paste the public address.
Avoid copying the URL of a Facebook Page, group, Watch feed or creator profile. Those pages can contain many videos and do not identify the one you want.
Copy the link on a computer
Open the post so the video or Reel has its own page. Copy the address from the browser, or use the post's Share menu and select Copy link.
If the link came from a notification or message preview, open the original post first. A fresh original URL is more reliable than a redirect wrapped by another service.
Prepare the video with Saveivo
- Paste the link into Saveivo.
- Keep Auto-detect selected or choose Facebook.
- Select Best, 1080p, 720p or 480p according to the options the public source provides.
- Press Download once.
- Keep the page open until the finished result is ready.
Facebook can provide different formats for different posts. A resolution shown in Saveivo is a requested maximum, not a promise that Facebook exposes that exact source. If 1080p is unavailable, try Best or 720p.
Find the finished Facebook video
The browser normally saves the MP4 in its Downloads location. On iPhone, look in the Files app rather than Photos. On Android, check Files, My Files or the browser's download history. On desktop, use the browser's download button to reveal the file.
If you plan to edit your own video, keep the original upload whenever possible. A copy delivered by a social platform may already have been compressed.
Common Facebook link problems
It works only when you are signed in
The post is not fully public or Facebook is requiring an account in that location. Saveivo does not reuse your logged-in session.
The post belongs to a private group
Group membership is an access control. Even if every group member can watch the video, it is not a public link.
The link opens the Facebook home page
Return to the video or Reel and copy a new individual link. Old notification links can lose their destination.
A quality option fails
Try Best video quality, then 720p or 480p. The original post may not provide a compatible file at the requested maximum.
Facebook recently changed the post
Creators can delete media, change its audience or restrict distribution. Platforms can also change their delivery systems. Wait briefly, copy a fresh link and try once more.

Download permission and reuse permission are not always the same. Before reposting someone else's Facebook video, confirm what the creator allows.
Use what you learned
Open the Facebook downloader
Paste a public link you own or have permission to save.
